Biocide storage and dosage systems


Systems for storing and dosing biocides are always designed with regards to the maximum safety required by the products' nature.
The biocides are presumably purchased in 1,000 kg IBCs or 200 kg barrels. 

If the IBC source is utilised then the "mother-daughter" system configuration can be utilised meaning placing the containers one above another. The bottom work container volume is 1,200 litres to contain the entire volume of a standard 1,000 kg IBC. Both containers are placed in a steel frame, the top one from which biocide is flowing down by gravity to the work container is handled by means of a crane or a forklift. The bottom work container is equipped with a limit or an analogue 4-20 mA level sensor providing a signal of the container level status to the PM control system.

For dosing biocides precise electric diaphragm dosing pumps are used with built-in processors. A number of the pumps depends on the number of dosage places. Usually 3 to 6 pumps are used. The dosing pumps are placed in a locked glass case and they may be operated only by an especially trained personnel. They are operated by a remote control system and a dosing diagram is designed as per the biocide sort and an extent of a microbial load. Thus the pumps can work either continuously or in batch. The pump intake system is connected to flushing water that can be advantageously utilised for service works on the pump or another dosing station part. The delivery piping from the pumps to the dosing places is made with regards to the given conditions either from heavy-duty plastic hosepipes with outer tubes or from stainless pipes. The on-site electric connection of the dosing station is very simple - it means only plugging the dosing pumps in and connecting the remote control signal cable. 

The station is put in a sump preventing possible biocide leakage from the delivered packing. Nearby there is always a safety shower with potable water for eye irrigation and a body shower to rinse other affected human body or clothing parts.

Both containers are placed in a steel frame, the top one from which defoamer is flowing down by gravity to the work container is handled by means of a crane or a forklift. The bottom work container is equipped with a limit or an analogue 4 - 20 mA level sensor providing a signal of the container level status to the PM control system.

For dosing defoamers precise electric diaphragm or screw (Mohno) dosing pumps are used. The number of the pumps depends on the number of dosage places.
Usually 1 to 3 pumps (typically top wire white water, bottom wire white water, starch preparation etc.) are used. The pump intake system is connected to flushing water that can be advantageously utilised for service works on the pump or another dosing station part. The delivery piping from the pumps to the dosing places is made with regards to the given conditions either from plastic hosepipes or from stainless pipes. The pump performance is controlled by means of frequency converters, the pumps are protected by pressure sensors and defoamer flow rates are neasured by means of inductive flowmeters. Product solution with purified filtrate or raw water before dosing is recommended. The water flow rate can be measured also with inductive flowmeters. The dosage is usually set on a constant rate with a manual valve.

The dosing station is connected to the grid usually by means of a little switchbard or a switchbox.
The dosing stations are usually designed as compact units mounted in support frames which significantly simplifies installing and starting-up.
